Hotel Sacher

Hotel Sacher, Vienna

In the heart of Vienna, across from the State Opera and at the beginning of the luxurious "Kaerntner Strasse" shopping street, the tradition-steeped Hotel Sacher, founded in 1876, can now boast yet another attraction. To be sure, the guests at this five star deluxe hotel will hardly notice it. But that is just what is absolutely typical for luxury hotels of this class: the "unseen servants" all work in the background. The Berker instabus EIB building management system installed here is no exception. Various functions in the hotel, such as lighting, alarms, emergency control, group control and remote control are all implemented via the Berker system.

Particularly practical for the guests is the utility and effect lighting control. When a room is entered, the key switch turns on the basic lighting, while at the same time the socket outlet circuits and the other control functions are enabled. When the guest leave the room all of the functions are locked out after a preset time. Any function which cannot be triggered by pressing the polar white surfaces of the Arsys switches can be operated conveniently from the seating area or the bed using the wall-mounted or hand-held radio transmitters. Even guests who book multiple-room suites (1, 2, 3 or more rooms) need not forego this convenience at the home of the renowned "Sacher Cake", which has been privately owned since its first opening. This is made possible by a group control containing the appropriate room combinations, which can be specified by the reception desk using an EIB function module.

A total of more than 500 Berker instabus KNX/EIB components have been installed to date. All of the functions are controlled using an EIB function module in which information is exchanged using two units at the same time in order to increase system reliability.
