GATEHOUSE
Gatehouse - an office building with a difference
In a symbiosis of ruins steeped in cultural history and an architectonic working environment, a cubistic protective sheath was constructed, pulled almost like a showcase window over the remains of a historical gatehouse at the gateway to the Rheintal World Heritage Site.
The complete building services are controlled by means of an EIB system from Berker. All of the work stations and the building services can be networked in variable configurations. Besides the futuristic building services from Berker, the building's high transparency is an important part of the design concept. The gatehouse was built in 1897 and partially destroyed in the Second World War. Reconstruction according to the original plans was not intended, nor was it required for the purposes of historical preservation.
The remaining structural elements were secured and renovated. A light, transparent structure of glass and aluminium was built on top. The openness of the building's external skin arouses curiosity. It has been designed and equipped to be used not only as office space, but also for seminars and as a space for exhibiting art and other objects.
