Q.1 switch series by Berker nominated for the 2011 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany

IN THE RUNNING FOR THE ‘DESIGN OSCAR’

Q.1 switch series by Berker nominated for the 2011 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany

Berker is yet again proving its excellence in design. The unusual Berker Q.1 switch series developed by the well-known manufacturer of switches and systems has just been nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of German in the category ‘Product Design’.

And even though there is no knowing yet whether Berker will actually win the award, the company, based in the Sauerland region of Germany, is already delighted. After all, just to be nominated for this, the highest official design award in Germany, is really something. Direct entries to this ‘Design Oscar’ are not permitted. All of the nominated products must be proposed by Ministries of the Federal States and must already have won other design prizes. As such, the Berker Q.1 switch programme, which has already been honoured with the 2009 red dot design award and the DESIGN PLUS, is in the very best company. A mere 25 products are awarded prizes in the field of product design.

So now we have to keep our fingers crossed. The management in Schalksmühle is optimistic. ‘We have developed an unusual product in the shape of Berker Q.1. A special manufacturing process gives this switch a pleasantly velvety surface that users love,’ according to Marketing Director Harald Börsch. ‘There is no other comparable switch programme in the marketplace at present.’ Berker Q.1 blends seamlessly into Berker’s modular product concept. In addition to its award-winning design, the programme also offers an enormous breadth of products that leaves virtually nothing to be desired.
