ARTUSO HOUSE

Artuso house, Koblenz

An oasis of peace in the centre of the city – residential construction reduced to a minimum.

This house radiates simplicity and distinctiveness in equal measure. It adheres strictly to the tetrahedral shape, with the dividing wall between it and the immediately adjacent workshop designed as an extra-high, extra-long slab. On the side towards the street the house is screened by a single-storey wing with a concrete slab for closure. The ground-level facade is stuccoed, in contrast to the upper storey, which has Larchwood planking. The design comes across as simple, but rich.

The reduction of the structure to the essential is not only economical, but also adds to its aesthetic value and charm. Simplicity and a distinctive form make a good combination. And what is more: this approach increases the financial scope, and especially the creative possibilities for the interior.

The owner and the architect have designed every detail in total harmony. It is the switches in particular – here the "B.3" from Berker in aluminium/anthracite – which symbolise the house's philosophy: aesthetic reduction and conscious design. These switches of genuine aluminium can be used not only to turn the lighting on and off, but also to control the Venetian blinds. Moreover, the thermostats, telephone and antenna sockets and dimmers are integrated into the B.3 design line. The house's comfort and convenience are also enhanced by a multi-room sound system.
